History and Background



The Faculty Background


       The Faculty of Education, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University has offered tertiary education since 1937

and it has been in education service for 78 years. It was first founded as Suan Sunandha College School and

was later developed to Suan Sunandha Teacher College. In 2004, it was elevated to Suan Sunandha Rajabhat

University. The development of the faculty can be presented as follows:

           In 1952, the primary teacher program was offered in different special fields of study such as

craftsmanship, carpentry, printing, electrical work and embroidery and sewing.

           In 1952, a two-year Baccalaureate program of secondary curriculum was offered to those who

graduated with a two-year Baccalaureate program of primary curriculum in specific expertise.

           In 1955, a two-year Baccalaureate program of primary curriculum and a two-year Baccalaureate

program of secondary curriculum in special expertise as well as the two-year diploma in teacher training were

offered to those who graduated high school. The evaluation system was changed from percentage to credit in

this year.

           In 1957, it offered the two-year afternoon diploma in teacher training for those students who graduated

high school, but had no place to further their study. Male students could enroll teacher training for the first time.

There were both boarding students and non-boarding students as there were not enough rooms.

           In 1958, it introduced the higher diploma in education, which recruited students with two-year diploma

in teacher training. In this year, the Ministry of Education approved Suan Sunandha College School to be

elevated as Suan Sunandha Teacher College.

           In 1967, Suan Sunandha Teacher College offered a one-year intensive Baccalaureate in teacher training

program for those who graduated high school or equivalent

           In 1968, the college offered the part time program in Higher Diploma in Education, which accepted all

kinds of citizens from different occupations. Later, the part time program in two-year diploma in teacher training

was offered.

           In 1974, the two-year bachelor degree was offered, in which the curriculum of Education College was
used.

          In 1975, the Ministry of Education elevated Suan Sunandha Teacher College to higher education institute

according to Teacher College Act 1975. Its responsibility was to produce teachers. The organization consisted of

president office, schools, and departments. Faculty of Education was one of the schools of Suan Sunandha

Teacher College, headed by school head.



           In 1978, it offered the two-year bachelor degree for teachers and education personnel.

           In 1980, the four-year bachelor degree was offered to those who graduated high school.

           In 1982, it offered higher diploma in education and part time program.

           In 1984, the second Teacher College Act was enacted, specifying teacher college to combine different fields of study together, and the field of education was officially established in this year.

           In 1985, the two-year degree for teachers and education personnel came to an end as it was changed to education project for education personnel. It offered both diploma and bachelor degree in education.

           In 1992, King Bhumibol gave the name to all teacher collage as Rajabhat Institute.

           In 1995, the Ministry of Education announced all teacher colleges to become Rajabhat Institute, effective from January 25th, 1995. The school of education was changed to the Faculty of Education since then. The head of the school was then called dean. It was allowed to offer bachelor degree or higher.

           In 1997, the department of foundation education of the faculty of Education developed master program in leadership and offered program in quality management a year later.

           In 1997 the department of Fundamental Education of the Faculty of Education developed a master degree curriculum in the field of Leadership. It was developed to the curriculum of Quality Management in the following year.

           In 2001, the faculty of Education was assigned by the Rajabhat bureau to create five-year- bachelor degree for primary education teacher.

           In 2003, the faculty of Education was assigned by the Rajabhat Bureau to develop a training program for education personnel who did not have degree in education. The faculty completed the development of a five-year curriculum in bachelor degree in foundation education and opened for admission in 2004. 

          Suan Sunandha Rajabhat Institute was elevated to Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, under the supervision of The Higher Education Commission.

           In 2004, the faculty of Education granted a five-year scholarship to forty-three students covering three fields of study; mathematics, English, and Thai. In this year, the faculty offered post graduate diploma in teaching, batch 7 and post graduate diploma in education management, batch 1.

           In 2005, the faculty of Education offered the bachelor program (5 years) covering 4 study fields including mathematics, Thai, English, and early childhood education. Moreover, it offered post graduate diploma in teaching, batch 8 and post graduate diploma in education management, batch 2.

           In 2006, the faculty of Education was allocated the budget to build the new faculty building for 85 million baht. The last batch of four-year program students graduated this year. However, four-year bachelor in innovation and education technology was still on offer. At the same time, the third year student of five-year bachelor enrolled for teaching professional experience for the first time. (Practicum 1)

          On June 23rd, 2006, the Ministry of Education issued an announcement regarding the organization division of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University 2006, in which office of dean was set up.

          During November 8th -12th, 2006, Suan Sundha Rajabhat University held the event called “Suan Sunandha: 70 Year under the Royal Support”. Her Royal Highness Princess Sri Rasmi, Royal Consort to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn presided over the foundation stone laying ceremony for “Kannapon Pipat Building (new faculty building) on November 9th, 2006.

           In 2007, the third year students of five-year bachelor degree in education enrolled for teaching professional experience (Practicum 1) at the co-developing teaching school.

           In 2008, students of five-year bachelor degree graduated and were recruited as assistant teachers across the country.

           On the January 15th, 2010, the Faculty of Education organized the presiding over ceremony of Kannapon Pipat Building ( the new faculty building), which was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Chuangchoti Pantuwet, the university president.

           In the academic year 2011 the faculty offered the five-year bachelor degree in education in the field of social study.

           In the academic year 2012 the faculty extended the five-year bachelor degree to cover the fields of Thai Language, English, mathematics, early childhoo education and general sciences.

 

The Faculty of Education currently provides regular degrees covering 7 fields of studies. The four-year bachelor degree covers the fields of Innovation and Education Technology whereas the five-year bachelor degree covers the fields of social study, Thai language, English, mathematics, early childhood education and general sciences.
